About Rod Smith
Hello- just a few words about myself!
I have been interested in driving cars and motorcycles from an early age and got my Provisional licence for a motorbike when I was sixteen and passed my test shortly afterwards. When I was seventeen, I got my first car, well a small van actually, and passed the test to drive this at the first attempt.
An advert in a local paper, showing a picture of a Police motorcycle and with a caption " 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds " encouraged me to join the Police Force and under their excellent tuition I obtained Class 1 certificates for Traffic Officers on motorcycles and cars. I also passed my LGV licence - for driving lorries.
I became keen on motorcycle trials riding as a hobby and I represented my Force on a few occasions. Classic cars and motorbikes are a passion with me and I have owned and restored quite a few in the past.
Nearly fifteen years ago I studied with the British School of Motoring and passed the difficult exams to become a Driving Instructor. Almost immediately I started on my own, setting up a highly successful driving school. Many hundreds of pupils have worked hard and passed their driving tests with me. I still get a cheery wave from lots of them when I see them on the road. I am thankful for all their efforts!
You will find me easy to get on with and, together, we can work towards, not only passing your driving test, but to keep you safe whilst driving, after the test.
By the way, the picture is of my rare 1963 Rochdale Olympic - not for lessons though !
July 2011- Went camping, with my mate Mike, to Southern Ireland - Kerry and Cork. I was on my Yamaha Fazer and Mike was on his Royal Enfield. Had a brilliant week off over there, except for a few days of torrential rain - yes, more rain than we have here !
I have changed the Yamaha for a Triumph Bonneville, and hope to go camping with it in France in 2012. The Yamaha was not the type of bike for slow touring, heavily laden with tents etc. It was more of a main road express. I think the Bonneville will be more me.
